Welcome to Kurira — where connection overcomes distance. Discover our journey, values, and commitment to keeping the African diaspora in touch with their roots and loved ones, no matter where they are in the world.
Kurira was born from a simple yet profound desire to bridge the distances that separate African diaspora communities from their families back home.
As a testament to our cross-border thinking, the foundations of our organisation were laid in the Republic of Ireland while the initial concepts were drafted in Zimbabwe. In 2012, we signed some partnership agreements at O.R. Tambo airport in Johannesburg, South Africa, then we fully registered the organisation in the United Kingdom in June 2013. All the birthing pains culminated in the first call being made on the Kurira platform in February 2014.
Since day one, we have been committed to be innovative and provide outstanding support to our customers. This thinking has enabled us to retain patronage of our very first users with who continue to find value in our service for over a decade.
Today, Kurira has grown into a trusted platform for thousands of users across the globe, connecting Africans in the diaspora with their families and friends back home through innovative and user-friendly communication services. From our humble beginnings, we have expanded our offerings to include not only voice calls but also mobile airtime transfers and cross-border bill payments, and we have more services lined up for the near future.
With a dedicated team spread across several continents, Kurira remains committed to enhancing the lives of our users by providing reliable, high-quality services that transcend geographical barriers. As we continue to grow, we are driven by our mission to bring people together, no matter the distance, and to celebrate the rich tapestry of African cultures around the world.
To help African migrant communities to stay connected to their roots, and to be the best at that.
We are driven by the values of Ubuntu where we highly value our relationships with our customers, our co-workers and the world at large. We fully believe that “umuntu ngumuntu ngabantu” which means “a person is a person through other persons”.
